Option 1: Q70 LaGuardia Link, then the subway

The Q70 LaGuardia Link has no fare. It runs between Terminals B and C and two stations in Queens:

On the MTA's schedule the ride between 74 St and the terminals takes about 10 minutes to Terminal C and 13 to Terminal B. The bus comes about every 6 minutes on weekday middays and about every 10 on Sundays.

Option 2: M60 Select Bus to Upper Manhattan

The M60-SBS goes from LaGuardia to 125 St in Harlem, then along 125 St to Broadway and 106 St. It also stops at Astoria Blvd for the N and W. It's $3, and you tap your card or phone at the reader by any door. A transfer to the subway within 2 hours is free.

On the MTA's schedule it's about 30 minutes between Terminal B and 125 St at Lexington Av (4, 5, 6) and about 37 minutes between Terminal C and 125 St at St Nicholas Av (A, B, C, D). Buses come every 5 to 10 minutes most of the day.

Leaving the airport, the M60 picks up at Terminal B, not Terminal C. From Terminal C, the Q70 is the easier choice.

Other buses: Q72 and Q90

Both cost $3, with a free transfer to the subway within 2 hours. The Q33 goes only to Terminal A, which is closed to the public, so don't take it to catch a flight.

Q70 plus the LIRR

Take the Q70 to Woodside, then the Long Island Rail Road to Penn Station or Grand Central Madison. A CityTicket is $5.25 off-peak or $7.25 peak. Buy it in the TrainTime app or at a machine before you board, because buying on the train costs $7.75 to $8.50 more. Not every LIRR train stops at Woodside, so check the next one before you buy.
