Getting to Gillette Stadium by train: Patriots games 2026
For every Patriots home game, the MBTA runs a special train to Foxboro. Here are the train times, how to buy tickets and how to get home after the game.
Quick answer: For every Patriots home game, the MBTA runs a special "Patriots Train" to Foxboro station, about a quarter mile from Gillette Stadium. Boston trains start at South Station and stop at Back Bay and Dedham Corporate Center. A separate train starts in Providence and stops at Pawtucket/Central Falls, Attleboro and Mansfield. Tickets are $20 round trip and sold only in the MBTA mTicket app, starting at 11 am on the Monday before a Sunday game. Trains leave Foxboro for the ride home 30 minutes after the game ends.

How to buy and use your ticket
- Buy it in the mTicket app. Event tickets aren't sold at the station. You pay by credit or debit card.
- Buy early. The MBTA says tickets can sell out. They also can't be refunded or exchanged.
- Board at any stop. You can get on at any stop on the train's route, whichever origin your ticket shows.
- Activate it twice. Activate it once just before you board for Gillette, then again before the train home.
- South Station has Commuter Rail fare gates. Have your mTicket open when you get to the gates.
What it costs
- Patriots Train. $20 round trip, per the MBTA. Tickets are sold only in the mTicket app.
- Regular tickets and passes. Per the MBTA, they aren't valid on event trains. That includes the $10 weekend pass.
- Regular Franklin/Foxboro Line trains (weekdays only). $8.75 one way from South Station to Foxboro, per the MBTA. Buy a ticket in the mTicket app or at a fare machine. Tap-to-pay doesn't work on the Commuter Rail.
- Getting to South Station or Back Bay. $2.40 one way on the subway. Tap a contactless credit or debit card, phone or watch, or use a CharlieCard or CharlieTicket.
Fares as of October 2026. Check the MBTA's fares page before you ride.
Getting home after the game
The Boston and Providence trains leave Foxboro 30 minutes after the game ends. Walk straight to the station after the game. On game day, live departure times are on the MBTA's Foxboro station page.
There are no regular Sunday trains to Foxboro. The MBTA says regular Franklin/Foxboro Line service to Foxboro runs on weekdays only. So for the Sunday games, the Patriots Train is the only train.
The Thursday, Dec 10 game is different. Regular weekday trains do run to Foxboro that day, but on the current schedule the last regular train leaves Foxboro at 10:49 pm. An 8:15 pm game will almost certainly still be on then. Plan on taking the event train home.
What to bring (and what to leave)
- Bags. Anything banned at Gillette is also banned on the train. That includes large bags that don't meet the stadium's clear bag policy.
- Alcohol. No alcohol on the Commuter Rail.
- Lost items. The MBTA says items left on event trains are thrown away. Check your seat before you get off.
Getting to South Station or Back Bay
- South Station is on the Red Line and the Silver Line.
- Back Bay is on the Orange Line.
- Green Line closure. From Nov 7 to Nov 15, the Green Line is suspended through downtown, with free buses to Back Bay. If you normally ride the Green Line, leave extra time on Nov 8 or start from Back Bay.
Accessibility
The MBTA says all event trains stop only at fully accessible stations.
If the Patriots host a playoff game
In January 2026, the MBTA ran Patriots Trains for home playoff games on Jan 11 and Jan 18. Both were announced just a few days ahead, and tickets were sold in mTicket. If the Patriots host a playoff game in January 2027, watch the MBTA's news page and its Gillette page that week.
